Re: Project idea
So i'm buzzing around the garage, missing my car. I've been able to tinker on it for the past few months. It feels so weird to not have the Eclipse in there. Now dad's accord just sits there. At least i can bring it out of the weather now...

Re: Project idea
there's one problem: she holds the purse strings. Long story short, I'm whipped. lol. But i love her. If i had a job then i'd send off for it, but the deal was we get the car running and try to get her a decent car. She didn't have to buy me the bumper. I could've gone down to the local auto body panel store and bought a factory bumper for $80. Instead i got a bumper with fogs for about $300 with shipping. I'll save up coins and then send it off. about 2 months ago we had $67 in quarters alone, with the rest of a large pickle jar full of coins still to sort through. maybe I'll cash that in... lol

Re: Project idea
The wheels i want for the Eclipse. I'd have to change the hubs to make them fit. I think they'd look pretty sweet, i just don't have $1,250 for this particular set on eBay.

Re: Project idea
Decisions decisions! Should i get a 13B-REW out of a 1992-2002 FD3S with numbers reaching as high as 280 horsepower, or a 20B-REW out of a 1990-95 Eunos Cosmo with numbers reaching 300HP? The 13B TT is $1,450 and the 20B is a smooth $4,000 on Osaka JDM Motors... Hmmm, good thing I've got a couple of years before i get a new engine and drivetrain. lol

Re: Project idea
God i can not decide, the 13B-REW (two rotor twin turbo) or the 20B-REW (twin turbo three rotor engine). I know the 20B engine is out of a 1990-1995 Eunos Cosmo. As far as numbers, the 20B makes about 300 horses. The 13B makes 280 hp due to a 'Gentleman's Agreement' that the Japanese automakers came up with. They agreed not not make cars over 280 hp (I think. the actual number could be wrong.) So I dunno which engine. The 20B-REW DOES sound cool...

Re: Project idea
yes more power is always better, right? I would look at which one has a better history of reliability and go from there but more horses does sound appealing.

Re: Project idea
Ah but thats the thing. Power is technically unknown due to the "gentleman's Agreement' I've heard the 13B puts out upwards of 300+ hp stock. I have no idea about the 20B, but can you imagine the sound from a three rotor? I guess more research is needed. lol.
That thing would look pretty mean under the hood.
BTW, bout time you show signs of life D. I thought you forgot about me. lol

Re: Project idea
Thanks to Dminted showing me a few videos of the 20B, i have decided that it will go under the hood of the Eclipse. Better start a trust fund, the motor runs about $3000 on osakajdmmotors.com

Re: Project idea
it is a good choice after watching those videos of how it sounded and how fast it was. I am right there with you on starting a fund for my car as well, looking like I might need upwards of $5000 to get my RHD clip along with body work and paint.

I dunno man it's all in how you build it up. Stock for Stock I don't think I'd go for the 'possible' 20+ horsepower if it meant spending over double what the 13b costs. The extra 2 grand could go into building the 13b up way passed what the stock 20b would be putting out. But that's just my opinion, but I think a 20b would have a bigger shock factor.
And as far as powdercoating the valve cover, if you REALLY wanted it done, and wanted to save a BUTTLOAD of money... you could buy the powder and everything and do it yourself, and bake it in your home oven, believe it or not I've even seen people powdercoat their wheels and bake them 1 at a time in their home oven, and they turn out literally just as good as sending it off.
Regardless, everything's lookin good, your wife ever decide if she wants the 3000?

Re: Project idea
honestly, if i could get the numbers for both engines I'd probably be a lot better off. Wikipedia only tells so much. lol. I agree, a 20B-REW would have a bigger shock value. Not only would the Mustangs get stomped by an Eclipse, but it's packing a not one, not two, but three rotor twin turbo engine. I can see the punks calling it 'Rice' only to see nothin but tail lights. lol. For that fact, I'm thinking about either leaving the rear bumper lip with the factory bumper on the car (because it says Mitsubishi on one side and Eclipse on the other) OR cutting the words out and molding them into the new rear bumper (when ever we get that).
As far as home powder coating, do tell. lol. Saving money really speaks to me. Especially now that Sarah and i will be moving in about 2 weeks or so. As far as her getting a 3000GT, It was more me than her. She really wants a 3rd Gen Eclipse. I kind of pushed her into a 3000GT. But I want her to hae a car that she wants, not because i want to work on it. Saw this beautiful charcoal colored 2003 Eclipse GTS with a V6 for 999 down not too far from where we go to church. The only problem is we dont QUITE have that much money in addition to fixing out car AND paying deposits and bills. We're still waiting on our tax return (damn IRS, go fig eh?).

Re: Project idea
Well I'd suggest first going on youtube so you can kind of get the idea of how you'll be doing it, then look into buying one of these,
http://www.eastwood.com/original-hotcoat-powdercoating-gun-1.html
http://www.eastwood.com/hotcoat-elite-powder-coat-kit.html
Obviously the latter would be the most cost effective in the long run, because if you figure you'll be powder coating more than just your VC when it's all said and done, it'll end up being WAAAY cheaper.
and also checkout this webpage for some info on home powder coating, I suggest reading the whole thing before goin at it yourself.

Re: Project idea
Man this sucks! The shop that i took the car to hasn't been able to get it in to work on it. They are one of the best shops in town, but it looks like they at least pulled the motor out of the rear hatch and are working on it inside. Fingers crossed lol.
The other thing that sucks is i just saw an RB26DETT for $2,300 on osakajdmmotors.ca. I really want that engine. Better find a Nissan Frontier or Mitsubishi 3000GT (for myself, the missus doesn't really want one) and wap that bad boy in. Or i could get a DR30 or 31 skyline and do the same... hmmm.... decisions decisions! lol

New front bumper came in a few days ago. I need to get it to the car and have it installed once the car's done.

Where'd you order the bumper from? I'm too lazy to check the 7 other pages to see if I already asked you that hahaha. Looks good though! Can't wait to see it on the car.

Re: Project idea
It's from VIS. I oredered it through Andy's Auto Sport. Cam decently fast. Luckilly i was driving a 2011 Chevy Silverado (LOVED that truck) when the driver called for directions. where we were are living right now he would have had trouble getting the tractor trailer down our road, so we met him at the local Wal-mart. Now to get the Eclipse out of the shop and get the bumper installed...

Re: Project idea
Random Project Thought. I'm wanting to go with a carbon fiber hood that has a small scoop near where the air filter sits. Since I'm a long ways from buying one, I was recently thinking about just buying a small scoop, cutting a hole in the hood near the filter, and bondoing the scoop over it and painting it to match. Any thoughts? I think it'd be cheaper than getting a CF since the Missus and i are on a budget.

Re: Project idea
as long as the scoop is small and doesn't rise up too high it should look really good, but being a carbon owner I have to say i love the carbon fiber look and it is definitely worth the price.

Re: Project idea
I know. lol. But i don't have the money for the price. I want to go with a small scoop that LOOKS like it's part of the hood, but doesnt rise maybe more than an inch or two. It'll be down around the driver's headlight. basically like this, only not CF.
