Sorry about not having anything to update on here with but my car has been just sitting in the garage collecting dust and i am a poor old college student with no money to work on it. Have decided to just go ahead and sell the car but not until after I can get the engine out to set aside for a later build. If I am lucky I will be able to buy a car later next year but I have no way of knowing for sure. Definitely going to be replacing my minivan this spring though just hope we can get into something nicer than what we have now, would love to be able to get a newer than 07 Tahoe or Suburban (one step closer to an Escalade lol). Have no idea yet what I want for myself bu I might look into an Integra so I can throw on a JDM front end cause I hate the little circle headlights on the ones we have here lol. I will not be using my D15B until I can find a decent Civic Wagovan to put it in with the AWD setup.

It's a shame that you decided to sell the Civic bro. how much do you think it would cost to repair everything that needs repair?

Did you get the D-series washers? It took some trying a few different ways to finally get them on. Basically what I did was put the rear extensions in first then you just need to set the front of the cover down first and find the right groove to get the back side down all the way. Like I said it too a few tries but once I did get it right it went on nice and smooth.

@Austin- I am not sure on the cost of repairs but the lower rear end that is bent out of shape could be an easy fix with some wood and a really big clamp or a big mallet lol. The front end however has a couple of spots with some bent metal from previous owners front end damage but I don't know to what extent the damage is yet. I would have to have the car looked at by the body shop to give me a full understanding of the damage there. I know for sure that the full front radiator supports needs replaced and I think that the damages might be the culprit to my fender not lining up quite right on driver side. The fender looks all fine until you put the hood down and there is a huge gap between the hood and fender. Maybe not huge but a much larger gap than the other side and it looks even bigger with the hood spacers on. I really don't want to sell it but since I can't use the engine in that car I need a new car and I wanted to keep this one as a possible track car but just don't feel that it would be safe enough out on the track.

What i would do is find a shop that offers estimates at a decent price (too bad you don't live in Springfield. There's a body shop that does estimates for $50) and see how much the work will cost. While it probably wont be covered by auto insurance since you didn't own the car when the damage occurred, it would help to know just how much it will cost. Worst case scenario, you could get on a Honda forum or befriend someone who knows a few things about auto body repair. The lower mounts might be an easy fix, but the front end might take specialist work. Could just get a JDM front clip too. lol

So came to a conclusion on the hatch. I will be looking into an older model civic to put my D15B into and keeping the EK because my daughter wants it for herself when she turns 16 in a couple of years. So I have roughly 2 years to get a new engine in it and get it out on the road safely and legally so that she can learn to drive it with her permit. With the amount of time I need I don't see any issues with getting a hold of a good engine to put in. Sad to not be driving it but glad it can be of use still. Looking forward to future projects as well even though I have no idea what they will be yet lol.

Yeah the search for a good condition car is going to be tough but I will not need to as soon as i was thinking. My fiance doesn't want me to give my car to my daughter because she feels that it is not a good starter for a girl since it is all stripped out and basically built as a tuner car. She wants me to find her something more suitable for a teenage girl like a sedan or SUV. so maybe I can get an accord or civic sedan for her lol. At this point I am focusing my financial savings towards a new engine which I have received an estimate to be $3600 out the door for a B16A or if by some miracle I can get the $5400 for a Type-R B18.

Just submitted a message today for another shop to get another quote on a new engine. hopefully I get a better price than the $3600 I was quoted before. I am fairly confident that $3600 is decent but feel that i might be able to get a better deal. The shop I submitted to is awesome and has had several spots in HondaTuning Magazine and is a pretty well known shop here in AZ so it might not be cheaper but maybe it would be better work right?

Finally got a small break long enough to go out and take a look at the hatch. Was peeking around to see why my brake lights aren't working and found that my fuse was missing for my horn/stop lights. I found this to be very odd since the lights were working before I took the car into the shop down at Import Power House. So either they removed the fuse for no reason or somebody took it out in between it going to the shop and me getting pulled over. I asked my mom about it because she swears that when she was following me home from the shop that my brake lights were working but don't know when someone would have had the time to peek under my hood and remove a fuse. I had a 10 amp fuse for my SRS system but since I have no airbags in the car anymore I felt it was ok to take that one out lol. The fuse needed is a 15 amp but that also works the horn which is not there anymore either so the 10 amp should be okay for now until I get a new one, even though I can't drive the car anyway lol. So one more problem down now I just need to have the funds available to get my engine swap done. Have been in contact with another shop that seems to be a bit better than IPH, and has had a few cars in HondaTuning Magazine. Looking into RC's Garage in Phoenix AZ to see about their options on a swap for my car. Also found some new websites with amazing deals on parts from Japan. A set of doors with glass and power motor from Type-R for only $250 and Type-R side skirts in Phoenix Yellow (the color my car will be someday lol) for only $200.

Hm, that sucks about the fuse. I wonder why someone would take just a simple fuse like that? and please post some webites, i'd love to get some more info on JDM parts since i want to do an Evo 8 head swap and AWD. It's always good to get quotes, but a higher price doesn't always mean better work. But since the shop has had cars featured in magazines, i wouldn't be too worried.

I will have to do that, at this point I need to focus on getting the engine replaced so I can get it registered. Thinking about trying to just go and test it after I get my license back since I got the ceheck engine light issue fixed. I read that here in AZ if the check engine light goes on and off like it is supposed to when the car is started but the computer wont communicate then sometimes they will just pass you anyway, so I figure it is worth a shot.

Post by Dminted Tue Apr 09, 2013 1:51 am

so after my car has been sitting in the garage for far too long I decided to take it down and see if it would pass emissions after having the wire harness redone, and after waiting about half an hour and having a few of the guys working there looking at it and wondering why it would not communicate with the computer they finally gave me the go ahead and passed it for emission testing. So I can now get my car registered in the state of Arizona legally, as soon as I can afford that of course lol, and start driving it again. Now I must start the car fund back up again because I do need a new battery since mine is completely dead because the kids where playing around and left my lights on for a few days. I will also not be driving it out too often until I can get new doors so that my windows will actually go up when I park it somewhere and also need to get a new windshield so i don't get another ticket for having a giant baseball size cracked circle right in front of my face. As of right now I have figured I need about $600 to cover battery; doors; windshield; and registration including my personal AZ Cardinals plates with my choice of wording lol. Soon it will be back but had some fun driving it today to the emission station and can't wait to have it back on the road again.

Wait, I thought the D series engine couldn't pass emissions since its an OBDI in an OBDII car? Great to hear you're making progress. I'm still trying get money together to live let alone fix my car. Better keep updating us. LOL

Post by Dminted Tue Apr 09, 2013 10:59 am

Well the D15B is OBDI and the reason why it shouldn't pass emission is because the ECU wont communicate with the computer they use to test it. After them sitting there staring at their computer telling them that it would not communicate with my car they checked to be sure that my check engine light came on and off as it was supposed to and just passed it anyway. I had done some research on many Honda forums and found that several people have experienced the same issue as me trying to emission test and OBDII car with an OBDI engine and ECU. Many of the people were saying that if your check engine light goes on and off when the ignition is turned on like it normally does then they will overlook the fact of it not communicating with their system. So I figured I would try it and was surprised to see it work. Still not getting very much progress on the build part yet though since the first thing I need to do is get a new battery but I think I will try to take mine down to Walmart and have them charge it first to see if that will help. After that is registration, then windshield, and finally doors. After all that is done I can start on all of the other things I have planned again. So I don't "need" a new engine right now but I now have some time to be able to get a new swap and still drive my car instead of it sitting in the garage collecting dust.

For some reason since my car has been just sitting around I haven't even had a desire to buy anything for it and all of a sudden now that I can get it registered and on the road legal I have already started looking into prices on parts again lol. I now have something better to spend money on than buying random video games that I never like lol.
