I was browsing a copy of Super Street at the Books-A-Million in Joplin Mo, and noticed in one of the first pages that Mitsubishi discontinued the Eclipse, but reversed their decision since several other car manufacturers are putting cars out in the 20-25K dollar range. My wife wants a 4G and i'm sure by now you guys know i drive a 3G, so the Eclipse love is starting to run deep in my house (always had a thing for Brian's lime green 2G in The Fast and the Furious). My question is, has anyone else heard anything about the Eclipse? So far, Super Street is the only mag that has said the car isn't dead.

Re: 2013 Mitsubishi Eclipse?
according to wikipedia, The last Eclipse built was manufactured at Mitsubishi's Normal, Illinois plant and was auctioned off by Mecum Auctions in St. Charles, IL on Sept. 17 at 1:55 p.m. The sale was broadcast live on Mecum's national TV show on Discovery's HD Theater.[12] The final price was $35,000.
The last 2012 Eclipse to roll off the assembly line was built in August 2011, painted Kalapana Black, its color was chosen from by members of Mitsubishi’s Facebook community, who picked from a historical Eclipse color palette. It was the only Eclipse equipped with both the 3.8L/265 hp V-6 engine and the commemorative SE package, as well as special 18-inch Dark Argent alloy wheels and one of a kind graphics. It is also built with a sunroof, leather interior, 650W Rockford Fosgate 9-speaker audio system with Sirius XM, hands free Bluetooth phone interface, rear-view camera and HID headlights. This was the 906,876th Eclipse to be produced since the first Eclipse in 1990.[13]
Proceeds from the sale of this unique 2012 Mitsubishi Eclipse SE went go to the Japanese Red Cross to aid victims of the recent earthquake and subsequent tsunami.

Re: 2013 Mitsubishi Eclipse?
Since the proceeds went to charity I guess that's cool, but I'd be a little upset if I were the one that bought the "last" Eclipse and then they just decide to keep making them..

Has anybody seen the most recent issue of Super Street? It's in the front pages. Super Street seems to not want to answer my post on their FB wall...

Re: 2013 Mitsubishi Eclipse?
We literally don't have a single magazine stand in my town, waaaay toooo podunk. They sell auto-trader and a couple issues of Hunting Magazines and 4x4 mags, but not super street, import tuner, Honda Tuning, anything like that... it's pretty sad. If I make a run into the next town over I'll definitely be looking for it.

I know the feeling. I have to drive about an hour just to take a look at one. I'm not a big SS fan due to the models.

Re: 2013 Mitsubishi Eclipse?
According to www.thetorquereport.com on October 4, 2011 "After 22 years the once popular Mitsubishi Eclipse is dead, but it may not be dead for long. Greg Adams, Mitsubishi Motors North America's vice president-marketing and product planning, recently stated to Ward's Auto that the Eclipse "always comes back around sooner or later."
Does that mean that we could see a new Eclipse in the near future? Nothing has been confirmed. The Eclipse competes in a category that has "peaked" according to Adams. In order for a new Eclipse to get the green light a business case must be approved, which also means that "there needs to be sufficient market demand." In 2002 Mitsubishi sold 72,040 Eclipses, but through August of this year only 6,721 units were sold.
The Eclipse was launched in 1989 and Mitsubishi sold 982,024 units in the U.S. since it was released.
Mitsubishi is also slated to discontinue the production of the Galant midsize sedan at its Normal, Illinois plant before 2013. There is a possibility for a replacement..."
I dunno if you're an Eclipse fan, but this does sound interesting.
