Barn built, time attack, spoon themed, dc2 content.

Post by Addicted2Speed on Mon Apr 14, 2014 1:50 pm

Some of you may have seen my current prelude build, it's at a stand still at the moment. It's gained a few more problems in its travels and it's going to take me quite a bit longer to finish it than I had originally anticipated. This thread will be much more organized and stay on track.
Part of the problem holding me back was the lack of another vehicle. So.. I decided, since I'm young, and I have no good reason not to fuck my whole life up, why not just blow a bunch of money on some cars? I wanted to have a secondary daily in line so I could park the prelude for a good 6 months and not be affected. Kept looking at pretty cheap cars and I just refused to buy something that I wasn't going to like.. I'm picky and my prelude is sooo thrashed (in my eyes), which is why I want to restore it.. I didn't want to buy another car I'm going to hate looking at.. So I held out for a couple more weeks and ended up getting a pretty good deal on a clean title, numbers matching throughout the car, SSBP GSR. It's my first b series, which I know nothing about.. But.. I'm kind of excited to play with something a little out of my element.

First picture of the new car. I actually really like this color.. Usually I'm pretty boring and just like white, black, or red.. But this fake pearl color kinda got to me..

The car came with GSR blades and a spare set of del sol five spokes. At least I think that's what they came off of.

Decided to order a few things.

    Yay...

216 screws and about 43278 sq.ft of bubble wrap later... We were getting somewhere. Pardon the clutter, everything's being taken to where the car will get the overhaul over the course of this week.

Sold the GSR blades and fat fives since I had these coming along with the front end. I know I said this was going to be Spoon themed, but these will be the only mugen/spoon crossover on the car. It won't be a complete Spoon theme but.. It's definitely dominate.

My horrible attempt at pretending I can edit pictures.

Put the mr5s on the car.

They need a good polishing, but they're in great shape.

Efrin's bay is a huge inspiration to me. And ultimately "similar" to what I would like for the dc2.

I'll finally get to put this to use. I ordered a new filter from RHDJapan and it should be here this week.

I have Spoon res covers but there's no point on posting a picture of those. Ordering the strut bar and radiator hoses, oil and radiator caps, as well as a few tune up parts (head gasket, vc gasket, vtec solenoid gasket, plugs, wires, etc), tomorrow after work when I get a chance to go to the bank.

As far as plans for the car, I'm going to pull the motor and do all the maintenance. Pressure wash the bay after I tuck the headlight harnesses and get rid of the power steering and air conditioning bullshit. Won't be a full tuck, and won't be shaved, but hopefully it'll look nice. Might take it up north and hopefully have the chance to do some amateur auto cross events. Import Faceoff is coming to Woodburn here In about 5 weeks and I'm hoping to have the front end on an painted and the motor back in by then so I can enter the car show, but I work full time so we'll see how it goes.

That's pretty much all I've got for now. Apparently I forgot to take a picture of the engine bay. I'll update later this week when the car makes it out to where I'll be doing the work.

These updates are copied and pasted from another forum so they may not make a whole lot of sense as far as a timeline goes.

Should be a new part showing up every day this week..
First up is the new Abbey Road Company filter for my intake box.

You can definitely see how haggard the original filter is. And for anybody with a first gen dc2 ARC intake box.. I'll just put this out there since NOBODY else has posted it online.... The "Type E" filter from rhdjapan.com WILL fit these boxes. I searched everywhere to try and get confirmation that it would fit and everyone either wanted to be a prick and tell me, "find out for yourself", or just say, "I don't want to go measure it for you". Well, fuck you guys. They still have some in stock, it's not the "correct" filter, but has the same dimensions.

Thought this was kind of neat.. All the Japanese text on the package. It took about two weeks to get here from Japan, was expecting longer honestly.

Just ordered brand new Spoon Sports radiator hoses, a BNIB Spoon Sports front dc2 strut bar, windshield banner, couple decals, and a rad cap. Forgot to order the oil cap, so I'll wait until I need a few other things from ICB to order that. Can't wait to see what shows up tomorrow, I'm refusing to check any tracking so it's a surprise for me. I dunno, I'm a douche like that. I get more excited for this stuff than I did as a kid on Christmas morning. Hahah.

Well, missed the fedex guy by 5 minutes yesterday and they refused to let me come pick up my package.. Lame.. I've never had to sign for a package from ICB before so I'm kind of irritated, but oh well. Car's getting parked and tear down starts in an hour.

Got the car out to the barn. Gotta move some stuff around before I can get the car into the bay I want to use. Basically everyone else that was willing to let me use their space, wanted an ass load of money for renting the space, which is understandable, my budget just didn't allow for it. All I have to do to use this space is help him haul a load of trash to the dump.

I'll post a few pics to hold you guys over until I get some real progress done.

Who needs a pickup when you've got a snatchback..? Everything but the hood fit in the hatch with ease.

Few other parts I've been holding onto for a while, just waiting for the right time to use them.

By now I'm sure you think I'm a compulsive liar, seeing as how I promised the wheels would be the only mugen product on the car... :/

I also have a harness bar and a set of harnesses, and a few other parts I guess I didn't take pictures of.

Had to sneak in this shot of my prelude just because I love the mf8s so much. I'm still a prelude/accord guy at heart. I knew I would have an integra one day, and this is actually my second, but I've never been a B series fan. Diehard H series fanatic. Eventually this integra will be h2b, I have three complete h22 longblocks I've been playing with for a few years now. But that's waaaay down the road. That's all for now.

Well, my phone died as soon as I got the integra parked in the bay. So that sucked. No pictures of any of the progress today.
However, I bought a new truck.. Hahahah

66,XXX original miles, nothing has been replaced aside from normal maintenance. Original interior, even has the original jack and tire iron. Runs like a champ. Thinking about doing something sort of sleeper-ish. Don't wanna bag it or anything. Clear coat just needs to be sanded down and reshot and it'll look great.

This was the only picture I could get before my phone died. Got it parked and got all the front panels off. Didn't start drilling out the spot welds or anything yet.

Don't let me fool you, still a ricer at heart. This isn't even half of the stickers/decals I've collected over the years but they're the only ones I would ever consider putting on a car. Don't worry, they won't all find themselves on the integra. The "#tylerisapussy" decal is definitely my favorite one, although it doesn't belong on a Honda. My favorite drifter, Tyler Wolfson, made 5 of these stickers, one of which is on his helmet, I have one, and he gave away the other three. Nothing really that special I guess.. but it was to me, hahah.

Nice to have some action going on here! love the find on the old Datsun pickup those things have so much potential. But the Integra is very nice, I like that body style and love the JDM front clip on them would definitely be the first thing I purchased if I got a DC as well. Love the build so far or at least the plans for the build lol. I see that you are buying from ICB, great choice I live pretty close to their shop here in the Phoenix valley. I have started up a company with a few friends and am trying to get the hookup from local parts people including ICB if that goes well I'll hit you up and see about getting some discounted rates. Currently have a great connection with BWR and a few other smaller shops. I was very surprised to find out how many car companies base their company out of AZ.

Yeah ICB is great for some things, I've blown about a grand so far just ordering stuff from them. Some of their prices are competitive, some are outrageous, just depends on what you're buying.
Yeah the Datsun should be fun, either gonna go with a small block Chevy crate motor, or do an rb swap. Haven't decided yet, that's way down the road. I have a car show at the end of May I would like to enter the integra in so my deadline is May 24th. Ordering the paint, head gasket, vTec solenoid gasket, VC gasket, spark plugs, and spark plug wires today. Should have the front end on by this weekend, painted by next weekend, then I leave for Hawaii for a week. When I get back it's maintenance on the motor, wet sand the paint, delete power steering and air conditioning, tuck some wires, paint the valve cover, and detail the interior. Hopefully have it all done in time.
The worst case scenario right now is I won't have enough money to order my red ITR Recaros by the car show but if that's all that doesn't get done, I'll be satisfied.

Well, got the last package I'm expecting for at least another week. Got a few more things to order before the car will be "show ready", in my eyes.
Sorry about the quality of the photos, kind of hard to see some of the stuff.

Spoon Sports rad hoses, windshield banner, few decals, rad cap and a front strut bar. I can't think of anything in the world that feels better than opening up a brand new box from Spoon... Well I can think of one thing.
Anyways, should be hittin it hard tomorrow after I get off work. Goal is to get the front rad and bumper support off the car and start mockup on the front end. That's all for now.

Happy to see someone making some progress on their build and especially with great parts from Spoon. I agree opening boxes fresh from Japan is the best feeling. I think what I am looking forward to the most on this one is the front end once it's complete.

Well, got some things done today. Not really, but it's all I had time for so I'm counting it. Hopefully get out tomorrow to start deleting the air conditioning.

This is where all the work will be done, start to finish. That's all I've got today. Have quite a few things showing up next week. Gotta get the paint mixed and order just a couple odds and ends and I'll have everything to finish the car. Wether or not it gets done... That's another story.

Got some things done today. Started on the partial tuck. I'll be retaining ABS for now and I'm not touching the brake lines for the time being so those will all still reside in their stock locations. Got rid of power steering and air conditioning today, as well as the rest of the stock air box components and the windshield sprayer reservoir. If my budget allows I would like to pick up an odyssey battery and relocate the battery to where part of the stock air box sat between the bumper and sidewall of the bay, but I have a few other more important things to worry about for the time being.

Shaved a good 20-30 pounds and freed up a lot of space.

It's already looking way better. Test fit the Abbey Road Company intake box as well, just to see what it would look like. I still have to loop that last line on the power steering rack to complete the PS delete. I'll take care of that tomorrow and then move onto tucking the headlight harnesses and HID ballasts. Bought shrink wrap and some wire for extending the harnesses today so I should have everything I need to clean the bay up and get my partial tuck finished tomorrow.

Did a half assed mockup of the front end on the USDM bumper and rad support. Obviously not everything fit but I just wanted to get a little glimpse of what's to come. I'm not much for different colored bays... But I have to admit.. I kind of like the ssbp in the bay and the Milano red exterior of the front end. I'm still going to paint the front end ssbp though, don't worry.
I guess that's all I have at the moment. Should get the rest of the tuck finished tomorrow.

Got a few more things taken care of yesterday. Getting the hard line off the steering rack proved to be a little bit more of a bitch than I anticipated and took me waaaay too long. But I finally got the lines looped on the rack and air conditioning and power steering are completely deleted.

Also started on the headlight tuck. Didint get it done, but I made some progress.

Just gotta get rid of cruise control and the driver side partial tuck is complete.

Didn't mount the harness because I want to run it behind that sheet metal tunnel in the well where my finger's pointing.

Really wish I had time to delete abs, but I plan to autocross and since I'll be a first timer I want to get the feel for it with the ABS before I ditch it. Not exactly sure what kind of difference it'll make because I've never had a functioning ABS anyways.. I dunno.. I'll just try and find some way to clean it up and make it look better.

Problem.... I knew everything looked too good. The only problem with any of the front end components is the driver fender is boed in a little bit.. I've got a buddy in a body shop that should be able to help me out in time for paint.. But right now this is my biggest concern with finishing on time.

    That's all for now.

I got a couple things done after work today. Got rid of the cruise control, finished the driver side tuck, and brainstormed a few ideas to try and clean up the ABS area.

Did this whole tuck and removed all the ac and ps lines and connections without cutting a single wire.. I even have space to tuck the ballasts for my HIDs.

    Slowly but surely..

QUESTION: What's the best way to clean the bay and make it shine relatively well, obviously without dropping the motor.. I would think pressure washing would be a no no with all the connections, but it's fine on older cars.. So.. I dunno.. What do you guys do?

Went up to Max Motors yesterday and picked up my maintenance parts. I love having a Golden Eagle rep in the local area. Saved me a good chunk of change.

I'm on my way to the airport right now, leavin for Maui for the next week, I ordered the paint and a few other things that'll be showing up while I'm gone. I'll have 12 days to get everything done after I get back if I expect to show the car at import Faceoff.. Kinda sketchy... I don't know if I'm gonna make it :/

Well since I don't have any real progress on the Integra, I guess I'll post some pictures from my vacation and IFO last weekend.

This was my view every night as the sun started to go down.

    After the sun went down.

When the sun went down the sprinklers would come on and these big ass toads would come outta nowhere. There was seriously like a cluster of 4 or 5 every ten feet. It was nuts.

32 pound Mahi Mahi my brother caught. I didn't catch shit. Haha.

This was the only somewhat nice car I saw the whole time I was there.. Disappointing.

Now for some pictures from IFO

    This Sol took best civic.

And my buddy Korey took best "Other Honda", I guess Civic's get their own class haha.

It was sort of bitter sweet to see this car. It took best Acura. Which was ironic because it was a Spoon themed GSR as well. Now that I have until next year, I think I'll be able to bring it up to this level.

    Best engine bay.

An insanely immaculate Datsun. The interior was amazing.

Myles Kerr's integra. Some of you may have seen the video of this car destroying an 888 whp corvette down at Texas2k14 earlier this year.

It was pretty crazy how far the owner took this car. Almost everything was exactly replicated. Every time you walked by it would talk to you and everything. Got annoying by the end of the day though haha.

And I'm sure most of you have heard by now that Source Interlink filed for bankruptcy.
One of my life long goals was to write an article for Honda Tuning. I've been photographing and writing blog entries for the last couple years and plan to launch my website soon, but I had always hoped someday I would be able to write a spread for the magazine that basically shaped my life.. Sad day.

Little comparison between before I started and where I'm at now. I can't wait until the end of the month when the rest of my spoon crap shows up and I can start to finish up the bay.

Well that's about all I've got.

So my Spoon spark plug cover, spark plug wires, radiator cap and oil cap are on the way. I'm mapping out the bottom of the car and cutting some sheetmetal patches to prevent air pockets. One of my friends makes custom carbon fiber/Kevlar molds and parts in his spare time and does really good work. He's agreed to make my canards, front splitter, rear diffuser, and a firewall A/C block off plate out of carbon Kevlar. He has access to multiple colors and weave patterns but we couldn't find one that matched the spoon spark plug cover.

The spark plug cover on top is the one I ordered from ICB.

This is the closest we could get..

But I've never seen all the stuff we're gonna end up making, made out of Kevlar, so I'm pretty excited.

And for the big update.. Crossed off another 1/4 of my major parts list so that's two down and just seats and spoon calipers left to buy. I've always wanted these so I am beyond excited. They'll tie up the whole spoon theme from the exterior since I won't be running a spoon lip. Especially once I get the calipers behind them.

No better feeling in the world than seeing fedex pull up knowing your wheels are on that truck.

Well my new wheels showed up yesterday. I love the mr5s but they clash with the spoon theme. So I decided to buy a set of sw388s, which are also one of my favorite wheels.

Came wrapped in BRAND NEW Falken Azenis too.

Picked up a small sponsorship from a local business. They'll be providing my 3/16 stainless steel brake lines for my brake line tuck so I can finish the passenger side wire tuck as well. Once that's finished, it'll be time to do the body work and get it ready for paint. I'm actually gonna get ahold of Matt Ye and talk to him about a sponsorship. I've already spent a butt load of scratch at ICB and I know somebody who's sponsored by Matt already so we'll see where that goes. Honestly just being able to say "I'm sponsored by ICB", would be an honor and great achievement as far as I'm concerned, forget the discounted parts hahaha.
