I hope y'all dont think i'm bashing Honda's. I can always appreciate a well built one. To me, honda tuners look like they're following a crowd. Not always a bad thing, but where's the individuality? It's the ones who convert to RHD, swap an S2000 motor and drivetrain or even a V8 that grab my attention. But, I am a sucker for a good build. I mean, I'm the first to admit that 90% of Honda owners are complete douche bags.. but.. I do kinda disagree that all of us follow a trend, because if you really look at all the different scenes.. they all have a specific style, almost every s14 looks basically the same to me and nobody claims that the 240 owners follow a "trend". It's just a style that follows a community of like minded enthusiasts. No we're not dropping v8's or super dramatic swaps in, but there's definitely alot of honda projects out there that get overlooked. If you've got any time, go check out Ryan from Rywire.com's integra type R build on stickydiljoe.com. It's gnarly.
Honda didn't really skimp on the performance, it just wasn't their main concern at the time. The k20a holds the land speed record for fastest 4 cylinder motor. It's just that their main concern was fuel economy. The type S and type R lines in Japan were based on performance, and on an auto cross track the Civic type R kept up with an audi r8.. of course the r8 left it in the straight aways stock for stock, but that's the difference in 50 grand or whatever the price difference is.
I love all kinds of differnt cars, but my main goal for this is just to build something that people will hate on. I'm just going to make all the corvette owners around here question themselves as to why they spent 70,000 dollars on a car just to get smoked by a 4 banger...
Nobody really knows what I've got planned for this car, aside from the parts list I have posted, but thats nothing compared to what the finished product will consist of. I'm working on some stuff right now, about to send the head out for some more work, got a couple cosmetic upgrades for extremely cheap the other day that i'll be posting up on monday or tuesday.
This is gonna be pretty slow here at the start, but once I get moved into my new house and buy a daily driver the lude will be parked and stripped. All the paint, interior, motor, brake lines, suspension, everything's coming off for its transformation. So just bare with me and there will be plenty of updates to come. Once I really get started I'll be starting a build thread on Honda-Tech aswell but you guys will still get all the updates first. Wink

Nicely put, Looking forward to all your build threads to come but secrets? come on we wanna know, lol. I love my Honda and yes I do have and plan to have many upgrades that may follow a certain trend but in no way do i consider myself a trend follower, like you said it is just a large group of people who happen to like the same ideas.

Well, some plans for the car have changed and are likely to change again so I don't wanna jump the gun. But it'll all be out in the open once I park the car at my new place and buy a daily driver so I can start buying parts. And I do agree there's alot of people that follow trends, or do something just because other people do it, but to say everyone that modifies a honda is a conformist, well that's just profiling haha. But like I said in the first post this is my build and anybody who doesn't like it is entitled to their opinion, and it's not going to hurt my feelings if somebody bashes my car. This won't be RHD, it won't be s2000 swapped, it'll still have an H series motor in it, but that's to prove a point. There's so much hate for the h series from b series fanatics around my area, literally nobody I personally know or have talked to in the last..5 or so years, has done anything to a motor other than a B series. I'm going to be doing an h23vtec build, which is an h series block, h23 crank, h22 vtec head, and then basically I'll be doing custom pistons and a crower/ferrea valve train. Obviously bore the block, haven't decided what sleeves to go with yet, porting, etc. I'll be tucking and shaving the entire bay including the brake lines, so no matter what, nobody will say it doesn't have a massive amount of effort put into it. When it's done it's basically going to be garaged.. I know people hate when good builds just sit, but with what I'm doing, it won't be a practical daily, so it'll be a weekend tracker, and meet/show car. I'm going to keep the color scheme and interior ideas a secret until I actually get them started. That's basically all I've got so far. And ironically, my next DD is likely to be a 240 s13 hatch.. haha.. I'm a Honda Junkie, but sometimes you need some RwD drift action in your life..

sounds pretty awesome so far. I don't mind the H series it is a very good platform and I'm still rocking my D series lol. The whole idea on having a garaged car is cool it gives you something to look forward to when track day or a meet comes up. And hey driving a 240 is not a bad thing would love to pick me up a S14 someday even though I love my Hondas.

I just love all the torque you get from an H series, and I like D series more than B series personally, I've seen some gnarly single slammer builds that put DOHCs to shame.
And once the lude is all finished, I'll probably sell the 240 (assuming that is what I end up buying for my DD) and just buy a stock s2000.

Yes. sometimes we do need a little RWD in our lives. some buy it, others build it. lol. Sounds like you've got a great plan going on here. I don't know much about Hondas, and i don't pretend to. What i do know is this is sounding like a good build, and I'm intrigued. As far as people bashing, let them. they wont get the pleasure of going home with it every night. Pretty much the same story with my car. I probably would've become a Honda aficionado if i had bought that Prelude back in 2007 when i got home from training for the Army. It was the Gen right after yours. really clean. Black with a mild kit, mild performace (intake, exhaust, short throw shifter) and black flush 18 inch wheels. The only problem was I didn't have my enlistment bonus yet... She was sold before i could snag her. I still see it every once in a great while, still looking as great as ever.

    First up..

New suede steering wheel from NRG, I decided to buy a new horn button instead of going with the NRG one because the Honda one is obviously badass...

    Close up.

Close up of the red stitching.

    Installed the quick release.

    This had me somewhat concerned......

Until I opened the box and found this...

    Matching part numbers ftw...

Part # and model of the quick release. Why am I showing you this? Who knows.

The short hub with the mating piece of the quick release. (Just mocked up to see how it looked)

Also got my 4 point harnesses in, I'll have to take pictures of those later because my camera died, but they won't be going in the car for quite some time. I just got them at a great price and decided I'd just get them now and hold on to them.

I'll post some pictures of the wheel in the car once I install the short hub.

Damn, that Honda horn looks rad. I like how it's aftermarket, but LOOKS like it was factory. Very slick partner. Wink

Yeah that's what I was going for Very Happy
I love the look of stock ep3, s2k, and NSX wheels so I kinda wanted to get that look but still go with a suede aftermarket wheel, came out pretty much exactly how I was hoping.
Didn't get it installed tonight, because I'm gonna go buy some 2.2 ohm resistors so I can turn the SRS light out without actually removing the light bulb in the dash, even though I'll never need the bulb, I'm thinking about going with a complete custom dash and guage cluster, so I might sell the stock one later and it'll be nice to have everything in tact.

Decided to try my hand at painting a valve cover..
This is the yellow one from the earlier pictures, but when I got it there was a huge chunk of metal broken off of where the the cover meets the head, so this ones garbage. Painted it for shits and gigs.

Well I was pretty much pissed off when I woke up and saw this...

That was at 6:30 in the morning, and it's been snowing for another 4 hours. So it looks like I won't be going out to buy the resistor today because my tires have no tread left whatsoever (probably shoulda been replaced 2 weeks ago..) I might end up walking into town and seeing if our local Napa has one, but it's a long shot. Our Napa is literally like a 20x10 hole in the wall.. Small town livin' ftl..

and as far as going with an aftermarket steering wheel for the eclipse, I love the feel of the NRG one I got, and if you go on ebay and just look for horn buttons they have all kinds of different custom ones you can get, I almost got one with a Koleshiya elder badge in the middle but I decided that was too "JDM Y0" fanboy status haha.

I'm sure they have em. I saw Nissan ones and stuff. And it still hasn't stopped snowing! We've got like 7 inches. Which is more than we even get when it's actually snow season... Mad

Well Napa and Carquest didn't have a clue as to what I was looking for when I went in there and asked for a 2.2 ohm resistor... one of the kids stocking the shelf at Carquest seemed to know what I was talking about and directed me to radioshack... 40 miles away... soooo looks like I'll be waiting for the snow to clear before I'll be able to get my wheel installed..

I thought it would too.. haha.. but it didnt. Maybe I just tried to weak of one, but I'll just get the recomended product, just for the sake of doing it "right" and being able to say I didn't cut any corners... I'm way too anal about stuff when it comes to my car (if I'm spending money on it, if it's free idgaf haha)

Yeah doing it right and not cutting corners is always good. I should have just taken my car to a body shop when i had the bumper in the pic put on. But being lazy, and going to texas the next day, i just drilled the holes and put it on. it worked for a while, then it popped off. once i get the Eclipse back (with a new engine, header and intake) I'll spend the extra money to take it in and have it professionally installed and painted. Being anal over our projects is never a bad thing.
